The regulation of the divinatory arts: an imperative necessity

In the current context where the question of regulating sectarian excesses is being discussed or will be discussed in the Senate, it would be essential to broaden our thinking to include the practices of the divinatory arts. Although article 4 of the bill examined on February 13 and 14 does not directly address this issue, it is essential to recognize the urgency of its treatment. The debates around article 4 highlighted the need to protect individuals from harmful influences, particularly in matters of health. However, it should be noted that the practices of clairvoyance and divinatory arts have already had and can also have serious consequences on the lives of people who use them. Certain practices, sometimes presented as medical alternatives, can lead to harmful decisions such as withholding or abandoning necessary medical care.

It is essential that the members of the commission are informed of these often overlooked realities. It is essential to ensure that the legislator has all the necessary data to make informed decisions in this specific area. It is therefore imperative that Ms. Sabrina Agresti-Roubache, as the sponsor of the bill, is made aware of this issue and informed of the potential dangers associated with the practices of the divinatory arts, and that she works to establish real and effective protection against charlatans and other disruptive/manipulative individuals who proliferate on social networks or are part of certain platforms or hiding behind a comfort pseudonym.

We have already made concrete proposals to regulate this sector of activity and protect consumers from the abuses that result from it. These proposals deserve to be seriously examined by the members of the committee. We hope that the legislator can act to put in place measures that allow individuals to call on practitioners of divinatory and related arts in complete safety, without fear of being victims of scams, manipulation, blackmail or threats.

The regulation of the divinatory arts must be taken into account within the current legislative framework. To do this, it is essential that the members of the commission are fully informed of the practices and issues associated with this area. The profession as a whole wants lawmakers to act diligently to protect the rights and safety of consumers while guaranteeing a clear and appropriate legal framework for practitioners of the divinatory arts.
