Telephone clairvoyance offers are flourishing on free ad sites and throughout the French written press. In addition to the exorbitant cost and the risk of credit card fraud, there is a new danger: Racketeering.
We all knew the neighborhood clairvoyant, often consulting at his home, comfortably seated behind his crystal ball or his tarot deck. A neighbor, a friend, even a confidant, to whom we went with complete confidence once or twice a year to take stock of our lives or that of our children. We went there without fear because word of mouth said that he was respectful, honest and affordable. And then he didn’t hide behind a nickname and didn’t do flashy advertising. Unfortunately, the species is endangered. The explosion of communication technologies has pushed everyone to stay at home, hidden behind their computer screen. More and more French people have become “no life” and only see their compatriots through forums, Facebook, Twitter and other Windows live. So much so that they no longer even know what their neighbors look like and do not realize that behind the other door on the landing, there is an old woman who is dying of loneliness. Most of them, moreover, have nothing to say about other Internet users. The main thing is to believe yourself to be famous or useful by posting floods of personal photos or displaying pseudo science on the forums. The problem is that by ignoring others, you isolate yourself. And when we find ourselves confronted with one of these pitfalls that life throws at us sooner or later, we realize, too late, that we are alone. There are smart people who have understood that this solitude and this lack of communication represent a significant financial windfall. And since people no longer travel, we must offer them remote consultations. Thus was born clairvoyance by telephone and the abuses that go hand in hand. While there are a few honest people, unscrupulous, greedy and wise people have set up pseudo telephone clairvoyance services with the sole aim of exploiting the distress of gogoes who dare to trust them. Worse still, others push the vice to the point of engaging in real blackmail on customers who have had the misfortune and recklessness to indulge in them. So businessmen with dubious pasts have set up a real scheme intended to obtain money or goods without making any effort. The trick is actually very simple since you just need to open one or more clairvoyance services by telephone. For this, no one needs to be an expert in parapsychology since clairvoyance is not legally recognized in France. A credit card payment service can be obtained within a few days in all banks. As for an 08 number, it took us less than an hour to make the request with the national operator.
The snake charms the pheasant Some act alone, hiding behind a nickname, with a normal telephone number, and a credit card payment service. They are the architects of the scam. Others act like scammers and think bigger. To answer the phone, the boss hires a majority of women since in general it is easier to talk to a woman than a man. But there are also students and any other woman looking for a fairly easy and well-paid job if you know how to do it. We teach them how to capture the attention of customers,how to make them feel confident enough to reveal the most intimate secrets of their private lives. It is easy to talk so that people open up completely and without restraint: when you are alone, lost, faced with a problem, you confide more than necessary in the first person who pretends to listen to you and sympathize. All it takes is a “I understand you” or a “it will work out” for that to be done.
The scam Once the person has gained confidence, and after vague predictions, the hostess (because she is not a clairvoyant) then offers occult work. Against a check for several hundred euros, or more, she promises the client a “job” for the return of the loved one, obtaining a job, eliminating a rival or winning the lottery. The account is withdrawn and withdrawn, sometimes at the cost of a bank loan. But rubbish is all this, the months pass and Anne my sister Anne does not see anything coming. The client thinks, realizes that he has been fooled and ends up taking back contact with the service (when it has not changed its name) to request reimbursement As the service managers do not want to hear anything, he talks about legal action. That’s when the problems begin… Blackmailer on a perched phone Our poor client is then faced with two solutions: either he abandons any idea of continuing, or his private and professional entourage receives a copy of the complete recording of his consultations by telephone. Another scenario: a lady one day consulted a psychic by telephone. Like many consultants, she confided in him and was more intimate. First scam, she paid 100 euros for nothing. But the matter did not end there. Knowing that this lady owned land, the “clairvoyant” asked her to give it to him so that he could build a “parapsychology center”. Refusal of the lady who undoubtedly smelled the trick. Then began blackmail against her where the pseudo clairvoyant threatened to send a recording of the consultation to her boss, in this case the administration. Tormented by this incessant harassment and the fear of seeing her life permanently ruined, the client quickly found herself on the verge of suicide. Pseudo gunslingers These two cases are chilling. Until now we knew about “ordinary” charlatans, those who defraud their victims by exchanging false hopes for real notes. But others go even further with blackmail, racketeering, corruption; a certain underworld has taken over telephone clairvoyance because more and more French people are blindly using this type of service. Hoping to find help at the end of the phone, people already affected in their private or professional lives find themselves in an impasse. Because victims are forced to submit to blackmail, unless they are psychologically strong enough to agree to see their private life subjected to those around them. And even they will not take this risk if they realize that other people could be affected by this unpacking.
The means of defense The best way is to warn yourself of these scammers. By avoiding premium rate numbers, by preferring to consult in person a psychic installed under their real name near you rather than a person with an evocative nickname waiting for you behind a simple telephone number. If it is difficult to get out of it alone after a scam, Inad volunteers do everything to help thevictims to overcome the shame caused by being tricked by a pseudo clairvoyant. But if the damage is done, there are solutions to overcome blackmailers. The “information technology and freedom” law requires anyone who owns a computer file to notify it to the CNIL and to allow those on file to access and modify or destroy the notifications concerning them. It is therefore in principle easy to know if your scammers are keeping illegal data about you (bank card number, registration). On the other hand, it is possible to file a complaint for blackmail, threats, invasion of privacy, breach of trust or for fraud. French courts are becoming more and more severe towards all those who practice divination. Today it is very rare for a clairvoyant to be prosecuted and to escape without conviction. Finally, it is possible to catch the sprinkler in his own trap by recording the conversation with the blackmailer in the presence of a sworn person who will be happy to launch civil or criminal proceedings against the crook in question.
